ADVENTURE

LUIS TARUC
In the 1950s, Luis Taruc led the Hukbalahap, a communist-inspired peasant movement fighting the government for land reform. At only 22, Ninoy Aquino was sent by Defense Secretary Ramon Magsaysay to negotiate Taruc’s peaceful surrender. Using empathy and intelligence, Ninoy gained Taruc’s trust and successfully convinced him to surrender in 1954. This success made Ninoy a national figure, admired for his diplomacy and courage. It also set the foundation for his later political career marked by intellect, dialogue, and a pursuit of justice.
